DEVELOPMENT GROUP PROGRESS REPORT

Firstly we would like to say a big thank you to the person who has anonymously donated the sum of £50 towards the work of the group. We’ll make sure it’s spent wisely. We have also received a start-up grant of £1,000 from the Sports Council to be spent on equipment which will be used by school children initially, and £100 from the Burton Ladies League. We are enormously grateful for all of these donations.

The three planned Open Sessions on 30^th May, 6^th and 13^th June have been publicised at all senior schools in the Burton area, with schools in Uttoxeter also keen to be involved. Permission is awaited from the South Derbyshire school authorities to allow us to circulate details to them. If anyone has any spare sets of bowls which they’d be willing to lend for use on the open days we’d be most grateful. Please drop them off at any of the four venues but make sure that you put identifying marks of some description on them so that we can get them back to you.

It has been suggested that the all weather surface at Shobnall Fields could be used for wheelchair-bound people but there is a cost associated with this and so enquiries are ongoing.

We have also provided posters and leaflets to the Burton College for distribution to people attending the pre-retirement courses and have offered to go and talk to people if they wish.
