GENERAL NEWS AND INFORMATION
DEVELOPMENT GROUP PROGRESS REPORT
The
Development Group AGM was held last November with the three Officers being
re-elected for a second year. They are
Margaret Hoare, Chair, Eunice Ireland, Secretary and Malcolm Cheese,
Treasurer. Representatives of several
Leagues and Clubs were present, together with new BCGBA National Coaching
Co-ordinator, Alan Tizard.
The
first activity this year was an open session during half-term on Wednesday 17th
February at Belvedere, where we were able to move indoors because of the bad
weather. 18 people between the ages of 5
to over 50 attended, some had been to previous try-out sessions so were clearly
interested in taking things further and as a result will be playing in new
teams in the Midweek League.
The
main project for this year will be the trial of an inter-schools league, using
greens at Barton, Stretton, Stapenhill
and Gardens, and possibly one or two other Clubs, providing we can secure the funding
to buy more equipment and providing we have sufficient numbers of people to be
able to man all of the greens. We’re
currently putting the finishing touches to these plans and if anyone would be
interested in taking a Coaching Course or is willing to assist at any of these
venues, please let me, Eunice, Malcolm or anyone else connected with
the Development Group know.
We
also plan to repeat the Saturday morning open sessions for all ages at Clubs
and those at Shobnall Fields during the school summer
holiday. Again we need people to get
involved and lend a hand. The Saturday
mornings are all in June, the 5th, 12th, 19th
and 26th from 10am to 12 noon.
All Clubs
are welcome to take part. We can provide
posters for you to put up but you will have to organise and run the sessions
yourselves. I assume that the Clubs
taking part in the Schools project will want to run these sessions but all
other clubs need to let me know by the 12th April at the latest so
that you can be included in the information sent out to pupils.
We’ll
be at Shobnall Fields from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on four
Wednesdays in August, the 4th,11th,
18th and 25th.
Whilst these sessions are targeted at young people, we hope to get some
of the parents interested as well. I’ll
let you know how we get on with all of our activities later in the year.
